Doubled-up and Disorganized DLP Strategies Leave Organizations Desiring Simpler Management

With the reduction and elimination of many traditional perimeters, the popularization of zero trust security strategies, and an increased attention on data breaches, an even greater focus has been placed on data security in recent years. For many organizations, data loss prevention (DLP) solutions are an integral part of their overall data security strategy. Yet, many organizations are struggling with their DLP management due to complex and legacy environments.

A recent survey conducted by CSA found that most organizations are using two or more DLP solutions. Larger organizations (organizations with 5,000+ employees) are using even more, with half reporting they use three or more DLP solutions. This is a clear sign that organizations are having issues finding a single, suitable solution that meets their needs and addresses their full environment, instead resorting to fashioning together 2+ DLP solutions to fully meet their requirements. With security teams already overworked due to the skills gap, this strategy of multiple DLP solutions is only making their jobs more difficult and complex.

The struggles organizations face with legacy enterprise DLP solutions are largely centered around issues with managing the solution(s). The top four challenges found in the survey included management difficulty, too many false positives, manual version upgrades, and complexity of deployment. All these challenges put even further strain on the security team and complicate management of the solutions.

It’s no surprise then that organizations are looking for DLP and data protection solutions that directly address these management difficulties. In particular, organizations are looking for unified policies/single console, automatic updates, and detection accuracy/low false positive rates.
