Preparing Enterprises for the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Threats

As we look to the future of computing, the quantum computer looms large. Quantum computing harnesses quantum mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform information processing in ways not possible by classical computing. A large-scale, general-purpose quantum computer is expected to help with the discovery of new drugs and materials, supercharge artificial intelligence, optimize a complex financial portfolio, and more. However, a quantum computer of this caliber also poses a dire threat to cybersecurity. Such a computer is expected to break key cryptographic systems, thus attacking corporations that house sensitive information. The ability to access smaller-scale quantum computers through the cloud is already a reality, therefore raising concerns within the cloud security industry as well. In this document, we explore why and how planning should be put in place to mitigate the quantum threat.
