CSA BrightTALK Webinar Series – Emerging Threats and Hacker Prevention https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/events/

The Internet of Things (IoT) offers enhanced technology capabilities in diverse industries. In the health care setting, IoT will bring new connected medical devices that support near real-time monitoring of patient health information. In the transportation industry, connected vehicles will communicate securely with each other and with the environment surrounding them, offering safer commutes. In the Utility industry, energy consumption will be regulated more efficiently which will reduce the risk of grid overload.

These are only a small set of examples that illustrate how the IoT will change the way we all interact with technology and with each other. Implementations of IoT vary greatly in the protocols that are used for communications and the security controls applied to their design. Examples range from devices that communicate using short range communications with smart phones, to entertainment components that are always connected to the Internet over your home’s wifi connection, to systems that communicate using proprietary protocols like ZWave. Many device types also communicate directly with each other (Machine-to-Machine). In some instances these communications are conducted over encrypted channels and in other instances that is not the case.

Organizations looking to deploy IoT components within their infrastructure must be aware of the threats that are introduced along with those components and take proactive actions to mitigate those threats through a careful consideration of their Enterprise security architecture. This talk will examine some of the challenges facing early adopters of the IoT which will be a focus of our first CSA document, providing industry guidance to help mitigate IoT Security Challenges for Early Adopters.

This webinar is part of the BrightTALK Hacker Prevention Summit.

Infosecurity Europe 2013CSA Security Workshop “Optimising cloud security, trust and transparency” at Infosecurity Europe 2013

This session will talk about the impact of security certifications for cloud computing. We’ll discuss if certifications are the solutions to current problems such as: optimizing security, increasing trust and transparency, facilitating market adoption.

Govs and business users do not have simple, cost effective ways to evaluate and compare their providers’ resilience, data protection capabilities and service portability. Is a certification a way to overcome the barrier?

Certifications and accreditations for cloud services are also in the agendas of policy makers, both at National and European level. The European Commission and ENISA during 2013-14 will work to the “development of EU-wide voluntary certification schemes in the area of cloud computing”. Which should be the key requirements of such a voluntary certification schema?

The Cloud Security Alliance is working in collaboration with BSI, AICPA and other organizations to the definition of the Open Certification Framework (OCF), an industry initiative that will allow global, trusted certification of cloud providers. How OCF works? Does it solve the problems?

As a part of this session CSA will also introduce the audience to the European Commission funded project Cumulus, A4Cloud and Cirrus which are relevant in the areas of standards, certification and accountability.

Background information to this CISO
In today’s digital age, information security is absolutely essential to protect the availability, privacy and integrity of business data. As businesses become increasingly dependent on complex information system, organisations must manage information security effectively to enable secure business collaboration across the extended enterprise.

A comprehensive information security framework must be implemented with minimum impact on business operations. The role of the chief information security officer (CISO) on the other hand, continues to evolve as the overall information security industry matures. CISO nowadays plays a more strategic role in the organisation.
One of the biggest challenges facing Information Security officers is to develop a risk-based approach to proactively manage future security challenges and yet being able to keep up to date with the ever-changing governance framework. There is the risk that if CISO do not adjust their risk management strategies to comply with regulations, they may face legal sanctions. These differences will be explored and practical solutions suggested during the course.

Although, many companies may find these standards difficult to implement, it is nevertheless important that CISO become fully conversant with their requirements, implementation and more importantly, potential threats with technology. This requires an all-rounder who can deal with business issues and not just focus on the IT side.

This CISO Summit is designed to give senior information security professionals a good grounding on the fundamental of information security instruments to measure the compliance risk factors.

CSA & ICS 2011 – Related Workshop: Security Parameters in Cloud Service Level Agreements https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/events/

In this workshop, organized jointly by ENISA, CSA and OASIS, we want to identify, with the help of the audience, good-practices for SLAs that allow customers to manage the security of services, to allow them to address information security risks. It is important to stress that we will focus only on what level of security and resilience gets delivered, rather than on how it is delivered (firewalls, loadbalancers, access control lists, etc).

This workshop is a working session, in which we will agree and draft a set of best practices and/or considerations together with participants.

A preliminary agenda of topics is the following:

  • Parameters: We will go over a wide range of security parameters (e.g.reachability, through-put, QoS, e2e availability).
  • Measurement: Per security parameter we will discuss if they are suited for inclusion in SLAs, and how they can be measured by the customer, a third party or the vendor.
  • SLA building: Looking at different scenarios and business cases, we will take the security parameters and focus on how they can be integrated in different SLAs for different kind of services/custom

CSA & ICS 2011 – International Roadmapping Session: Responses From Standards Bodies https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/events/

Moving forward from the focus on Roadmapping, this Session looks towards the needs of policy-makers and CIOs in addressing the core issues of the Symposium, namely, standards and best practices for interoperability and trust in the Cloud. Representatives of selected standards bodies will respond to the challenges outlined in the road maps and provide further insight into their activities, as well as plans for standards in support of Cloud based services.

Topics to be covered:

  • How selected Standards bodies are addressing the needs for best practices or draft guidelines, rather than actual standards
  • The types of standards architecture that seem most relevant and useful relating to Cloud issues
  • How might new partnerships between Standards bodies [de jure, fora and consortia] develop to meet the needs identified by the Siena and similar initiatives
  • And how the industry perceives its needs.

PCI Cloud Training https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/events/

The first ever class dedicated to assessing and implementing PCI DSS controls in cloud computing environments covers how to think of and how to do PCI DSS in various cloud computing environments. Focused primarily on people familiar with PCI DSS, it starts from the “hype-free” cloud computing facts and then delves into key scenarios where PCI DSS and clouds overlap in the real world. You will learn where to look while assessing such environments and what pitfalls and mistakes to avoid. It will also cover the shared responsibility between service providers and merchants in implementing PCI DSS controls. Specifically, we will discuss how PCI DSS Requirement 12.8 applies to various cloud scenarios.

The class would be most useful to PCI DSS QSA, organizations offering PCI DSS consulting as well as merchants planning or implementing PCI compliance.
