Cloud Security Alliance Announces New Federal Summit Event

Stellar Program to Feature Leaders from FedRAMP and NIST Providing Key Insights into Security Compliance, Architecture, Technology and Defending the Latest Threats

Washington, DC – March 17, 2015 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) today announced a brand new conference to be hosted on May 5, 2015 in Washington, DC. The Cloud Security Alliance Federal Summit, is a one day free-for-government event taking place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center and is expected to draw 250 information security professionals from civilian and defense agencies to share experiences and lessons learned about best practices for securing cloud computing and emerging security topics.

"As the industry leader in cloud security education and research, we decided the time is right, and frankly needed, to place singular emphasis on the issues and challenges facing IT professionals within the federal market," said Jim Reavis, CEO of the Cloud Security Alliance. “Cloud computing is a fast growing segment of the Federal IT landscape and is destined to become our next data center. We have assembled an impressive program of topics and speakers that will provide attendees with unique expert access and insight from which they can walk away with and readily apply these lessons within their own environment.

The program will feature presentations from some of the most prominent names and organizations in the federal space including:

Dr. Michaela Iorga, Senior Security Technical Lead for Cloud Computing at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will speak on "Not all Clouds are Equal - Can You Tell the Difference? Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Cloud-based Information Systems"

Matt Goodrich, Program Director, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will present "Update on the FedRAMP 2-Year Roadmap and Mapping to Industry Standards"

Bob Flores, Founder and President of Applicology and former CTO of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will give a talk entitled, "An Overview of the CSA Software Defined Perimeter Initiative"

Additionally, the event will feature panel discussions on "Managing Cloud Security: Considerations and Best Practices" and "Cloud Implementation Lessons Learned" featuring a mix of enterprise users and solution providers from Adobe, Skyhigh Networks, Palerra and others.

The CSA Federal Summit will also feature the release of the new Cloud Controls Matrix Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program Candidate Mapping, a guidance tool that has been developed to ensure secure cloud computing for the Federal Government.

In addition to the one-day event, the CSA will also be conducting a Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK) Workshop in preparation for CCSK testing. The workshop, scheduled to take place on May 6 and 7 at the Ronald Reagan Building, will focus on preparing attendees for the examination on a broad foundation of knowledge about cloud security, with topics ranging from architecture, governance, compliance, operations, encryption, virtualization and much more. This is a fee-based workshop. To register visit https://www.eventbank.com/event/215/.
