Cloud Security Alliance Selects Singapore as Site for Corporate Headquarters, Continues APAC Expansion Initiative

CSA and Singapore Government Undertake Long-Term Public-Private Partnership to Further The Security of Cloud Computing

Singapore – July 20, 2012 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) today announced the establishment of the new CSA corporate headquarters in Singapore, under an effort led by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), and founding APAC sponsor Trend Micro (TYO: 4704;TSE: 4704). The CSA will undertake a three-year strategic private-public partnership with support from the Singapore government to further the security of cloud computing. As part of the agreement, the CSA will establish a Global Research Centre, Global Standards Secretariat, and Global Centre of Excellence for CCSK training and education in Singapore. “After a highly competitive process, with interest from many candidates in the region, we are pleased to have selected Singapore as the key hub for CSA activities in the APAC region,” said Aloysius Cheang, Managing Director Asia Pacific for the CSA. “EDB and IDA have demonstrated a great commitment to the CSA presence in APAC, which will be highly beneficial to our members in the region, and elevate Singapore as a global hub for cloud computing security.” The CSA will play a strategic role helping CSA corporate members to establish and enhance their presence in APAC, using Singapore as an operational base if desired. CSA will introduce members into various support and collaboration efforts of the Singapore government through EDB and IDA, which will be customized to support CSA corporate members’ business activities in Singapore, and provide access to the vast business opportunities in Singapore and APAC. In addition, CSA will provide corporate members of Singaporean or APAC origins with access to business opportunities and partnerships globally. “Cloud security is an important focal area for Singapore. IDA is pleased to support the Cloud Security Alliance in setting up its corporate headquarters in Singapore. The CSA will not only promote best practices, drive standards and encourage innovative applications and services in the arena of cloud security, it can also use its global network to facilitate development collaboration opportunities for Singapore infocomm enterprises. Such initiatives complement our efforts to encourage cloud adoption and develop capabilities in cloud security,” said Mr. Andrew Khaw, Senior Director, Industry Development Group of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Jim Reavis, Co-Founder and Executive Director for the CSA said, “Singapore has historically been a leader in international commerce. Cloud computing at its core must function as a borderless, global utility that functions seamlessly across geographies yet supports jurisdictional requirements. The Cloud Security Alliance finds Singapore to be an ideal partner to help build a trusted, stable and innovative cloud ecosystem.” “The Cloud Security Alliance plays an invaluable role in bringing corporations and key stakeholders together in promoting cloud security and we are delighted that the CSA has chosen to set up their new corporate headquarters in Singapore,” said Mr. Gian Yi-Hsen, Director of the Safety & Security Industry Programme Office, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). “CSA’s corporate headquarters in Singapore strengthens our position as the focal point for cloud security best practices, research and development. We expect the joint effort to create new platforms and drive innovation in cloud security solutions.” Founding sponsor Trend Micro, a global cloud security leader, will be the first security company within APAC to chair the CSA Asia Pacific Executive Council. "Following the CSA's announcement of its intention to establish its headquarters and its founding partnership with Trend Micro in Asia Pacific earlier this year, we are delighted that Singapore has been chosen as the site for its headquarters. As a diverse region, we believe CSA's presence will enable organizations to build and implement standards in cloud security and achieve a higher return on their cloud investments. Trend Micro works closely with governments, industry associations and enterprises across the world to improve virtualisation and cloud data security and it is committed to assisting CSA as it begins its journey in Singapore. On behalf of its corporate members in Asia Pacific, we congratulate the CSA for this historic milestone achievement," said Ken Low, Chairman of CSA Asia Pacific Executive Council and Asia Pacific Director of Enterprise Security for Trend Micro. The CSA enjoys a close following in APAC with country and city-specific chapters and chapters-in-development in ten countries, including Australia, China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore. Continuing on its mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and provide education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing, CSA has announced a series of goals and initiatives specifically for Asia Pacific, in addition to those announced above. These include engaging regional key stakeholders, including government, legal experts, service providers, technology providers and consumers, customizing and developing relevant best practices and standards for the APAC market.
