Cloud Security Alliance Welcomes Three New Board Members

New members bring wealth of cloud security expertise to CSA

RSA Conference (San Francisco)April 27, 2023 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining standards, certifications, and best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment, is pleased to announce that Cheri McGuire, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), SWIFT; Tima Soni, Chief/Cybersecurity Division, United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC); and Larry Whiteside, Jr., Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), RegScale have joined the CSA Board of Directors.

“Our Board is composed of some of the industry’s greatest minds, and so I’m thrilled to welcome Cheri, Tima, and Larry to what is an already illustrious group of people. They are each highly respected across the industry, and their combined talent and passion for securing the cloud will go a long way to furthering our mission,” said Jim Reavis, CEO and co-founder, Cloud Security Alliance.

Cheri McGuire is a technology and cybersecurity leader with over 30 years in strategy, policy, operations and risk, spanning the financial, IT, consulting, and government sectors. She currently serves as the CTO at SWIFT, a member-owned cooperative providing secure financial messaging services and products that connect more than 11,000 financial organizations globally. In this role, she has responsibility for the Technology Platform organization of nearly 1,000 team members who deliver resilience, security, and trust across the functions of production operations; platform, tooling, and enterprise services; network, cloud, and data center operations; cyber and physical security; and business continuity and crisis management. She is a member of the SWIFT Executive Committee and the SWIFT Board Technology and Production Committee. She has extensive experience contributing to industry boards and public-private initiatives and currently serves as a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and on the Monetary Authority of Singapore International Cyber Security Advisory Panel.

Tima Soni joined UNICC in 2016 as Head, Information Security Services and three years later was appointed as Chief, Cybersecurity Division to oversee the cybersecurity program for UNICC and deliver cybersecurity services to UNICC’s clients and partner organizations. Tima oversees UNICC’s cybersecurity team of experts in New York, Valencia, Rome, and Geneva for UNICC’s more than 40 subscribers to information security services. She has served as CISO for several UNICC partner organizations, including UN Women, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), and currently serves as the CISO for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Tima has worked to develop and implement information security programs by delivering various information security initiatives, including information security governance, risk management, security operations, and security awareness per industry best practices. Tima strongly believes in collaboration and sharing of knowledge within the UN cybersecurity community. She has spearheaded the development of many common cybersecurity solutions within the UN family.

Larry Whiteside Jr. is a veteran CISO, former USAF Officer, and thought leader in the cybersecurity field. He has more than 25 years of experience in building and running cybersecurity programs, holding C-level security executive roles in multiple industries, including the Department of Defense, Federal government, financial services, healthcare, and critical infrastructure. He currently serves as the CISO at RegScale. Larry is also the co-founder, president, and on the Board of Directors at the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals (ICMCP), a 501(c)3 non-profit association that is dedicated to increase the number of minorities and women in the cybersecurity career field through providing workforce development that includes skills assessment, training, education, mentorship, and opportunity. Since 2009, via Whiteside Security, which he founded, Larry has advised several corporate security executives and companies across the cybersecurity industry on how to make cybersecurity a number one objective to their business.
