Cloud Security Alliance APAC Defines 2013-2014 Research Roadmap

CSA CONGRESS ASIA PACIFIC – Singapore - May 16, 2013 The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, today announced at the CSA APAC Congress that its APAC region leadership team has published its research roadmap for 2013-2014. The research roadmap is being led by Dr. Ryan Ko, CSA APAC Research Advisor and a Senior Lecturer with the Computer Science department as well as the leader of the Cyber Security Lab with the University of Waikato. Under the strategic guidance of Dr. Ko along with support from other strategic advisors and chapter leaders, CSA APAC will focus its research agenda on four key areas over the course of the next year: 1. Revitalization of the Cloud Data Governance Working Group. **The first APAC-led CSA working group, the Cloud Data Governance Working Group was co-founded in 2011 by the CSA Singapore Chapter and the CSA Silicon Valley Chapter. A key result from the working group was the development of the Cloud Consumer Advocacy Questionnaire And Information Survey Results (CCAQIS) v1.0. From 2013, CSA will revitalize the working group to investigate new challenges in governing and operating data across national boundaries in the cloud. Rizwan Ahmad, founder and CEO of the CSA New Zealand chapter, will lead the Cloud Data Governance Working Group. **2. Formation of a new CSA Cloud Vulnerabilities Working Group. **The second APAC-led CSA Working group, the Cloud Vulnerabilities Working Group will be formed and led by Dr. Ko. The Cloud Vulnerabilities working group will cover vulnerabilities in cloud systems, their detection and solutions. The working group will publish an initial white paper on the status of cloud vulnerabilities by May 2013. **3. Launch of the APAC university cloud research consortium. **This academic group will be focusing on research collaborations, university-to-university exchanges, university-industry collaborations adjunct professionships, visiting researchers/professors, and will also organize and administer funding applications. **4. Establishment of the first CSA research journal. Following the formation of an editorial board comprising esteemed cloud computing security academic and industry researchers, CSA APAC will launch the first CSA scholarly research journal. This publication will be based on an open access model for publication and will be published quarterly. “CSA APAC has set an aggressive research agenda for the rest of 2013 and into 2014. This research roadmap reflects the rapid growth of the cloud market in the APAC region and the demand for security assurances among our members,” said Aloysius Cheang, Managing Director APAC, for the CSA. “We look forward to reviewing our research roadmap in greater depth at the APAC Congress and publishing a higher volume of research reports over the course of the next year.” About the Cloud Security Alliance The Cloud Security Alliance is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and to provide education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing.
