Cloud Security Alliance Marks a New Chapter in AI Governance with the AI Trustworthy Pledge

Cloud Security Alliance Marks a New Chapter in AI Governance with the AI Trustworthy Pledge

Pledge identifies those organizations truly committed to responsible, trustworthy AI

SEATTLE – June 11, 2025 – The AI revolution is reshaping every sector of our economy. But even as AI systems are making decisions that affect millions of lives, organizations are grappling with a host of issues ranging from AI hallucinations to privacy concerns. The traditional approach of building first and securing later won't work in the AI era. Instead, what's needed is a proactive framework that embeds trust into the AI development lifecycle from day one. In response, the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining standards, certifications, and best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment, today rolled out the AI Trustworthy Pledge, a public commitment to the responsible development and management of AI.

The Pledge provides clear, principled guidelines and demonstrates leadership in responsible AI development and industry alignment with CSA’s AI Safety Initiative. It marks the first step toward CSA’s broader STAR for AI initiative, launching later this year, which will establish comprehensive cybersecurity and trustworthiness standards for generative AI services. By beginning with voluntary commitments, CSA is fostering industry-wide alignment on responsible AI practices ahead of introducing formal certification frameworks.

“The decisions we make today around AI governance, ethics, and security will shape not only the future of our organizations and our industry, but of society at large. The AI Trustworthy Pledge provides a tangible opportunity to lead in this space, not just by managing risk, but by actively driving responsible innovation and helping to establish the industry standards of tomorrow," said Jim Reavis, CEO and co-founder, Cloud Security Alliance.

The AI Trustworthy Pledge signals an organization's dedication to four foundational principles that should underpin every AI initiative—safety and compliance, transparency, ethical accountability, and privacy protection. By signing the pledge, organizations commit to:

  • designing, developing, deploying, operating, managing, or adopting AI solutions, while prioritizing user safety and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • being transparent about the AI systems they design, develop, deploy, operate, manage, or adopt, and in turn fostering trust and clarity
  • ethical AI design, development, deployment, operation, or management, ensuring fairness and the ability to explain AI outcomes
  • upholding the highest standards of privacy protection for personal data

Join Airia, Endor Labs, Deloitte Consulting Srl S.B., Okta, Reco, Redblock, Securiti AI, Whistic, Zscaler, Inc., and other AI-forward organizations in taking CSA’s AI Trustworthy Pledge. Participating organizations will receive a digital badge to promote their commitment.
