Cloud Security Alliance Expands Leadership Team With its First Chief Operating Officer

John Howie to Support Organization’s Expanding Member, Research and Event Initiatives

SEATTLE, WA – May 21, 2012 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) announced today the appointment of information and communications technology veteran John Howie to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Howie comes to CSA with experience in multiple industry sectors including financial, telecommunications, entertainment, education and software manufacturing that will be beneficial to the many market segments and global members the organization’s efforts serve. As COO, Howie will be working to support the CSA’s executive and managing directors world-wide with oversight of all CSA research, chapter and member activities and events. He will also serve as the Executive Director for CloudCERT Inc, which focuses on enhancing the capability of the cloud community to prepare for and respond to threats, vulnerabilities and incidents. “As a growing international organization, we have set an agenda that is designed to support the rapid growth of cloud computing and the concerns of cloud security,” said Jim Reavis, co-founder and executive director of CSA. “We are fortunate to have John join the leadership team and look forward to his deep management and cloud computing experience to help ensure the success of these efforts. “ Prior to joining the CSA, Howie managed groups responsible for cloud security in Microsoft’s datacenters. He has held management positions at Microsoft, Security Toolkit, Deloitte, LearningTree and RecruitSource. Aside from his professional experience, Howie also serves as a visiting professor at Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Computing and a visiting research professor at the University of Arizona’s Eller School of Management. He is a member of the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Information Management and Computer Security and also a member of the certification advisory board for certifications of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Howie also serves as an advisor to the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute’s Security Governance/Counter-Terrorism Laboratory.
