Cloud Security Alliance Announces China Representative Office, Forms Strategic Partnership With China Government-Academia-Industry Partners, And Expands Its Chinese Corporate Members.

CSA Makes Strong Long-Term Commitments in China

Beijing – May 19, 2014 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) today held a special event to announce the establishment of the new CSA China Representative Office in Beijing. The CSA also signed a total of seven strategic partnership agreements with multiple Chinese government agencies, academia institutions and technology companies. In addition, as part of the event the CSA welcomed new and renewing corporate members. Jim Reavis, CEO of CSA, Mr. Rongkai Ma, former Deputy Director General of NDRC, Mr. Wangxing Ding, former Deputy Director General of MIIT, and leaders from other partners and corporate members participated in the MOU signing ceremony. “China is the world's second largest economy after the United States. It is the world's fastest-growing major economy, with growth rates averaging 10% over the past 30 years. I believe Cloud Computing represents a tremendous opportunity for China to achieve robust economic growth within information technology. The expanding use of computer technology creates the potential for a cloud market in China far in excess of today’s IT software and services market. A critical success factor is coordination between industry and government to foster innovation and trust within the cloud,” said Jim Reavis. “After establishment of four local chapters under the auspices of the Greater China Regional Coordinating Body, establishing the CSA China Representative Office is another important milestone to demonstrate our long term commitment to further security in cloud computing in China. In the near future, we also plan to have a legal entity in China, similar to our regions in APAC and Europe.” The CSA also welcomed CEPREI Certification Body as the first Executive Corporate Member of the CSA in China and only the second Executive Corporate Member in APAC. CEPREI Certification Body signed strategic partnership agreement with the CSA for collaboration on developing a CSA STAR version for China under the CSA Open Certification Framework. CEPREI Certification Body with unique legal status is a registrar authorized and accredited by national department and/or accreditation bodies home and abroad, to conduct third-party certification. It grew out of Inspection Division of China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Research Institute (the Fifth Electronic Institute of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), also known as China CEPREI Laboratory), established in 1955, that is the first scientific research organization engaging in product quality and reliability research in China. Aloysius Cheang, CSA’s Managing Director for APAC said, “With the strong support of CEPREI, we will be able to accelerate the adoption of the CSA Open Certification Framework and the CSA STAR, and in particular the possibility of STAR becoming the de facto standard for cloud security certification in the country.” China Cloud OS Pioneer Strategic Alliance (CCOPSA) also signed a strategic partnership agreement with CSA. Under this agreement, CSA becomes a member of CCOPSA. CCOPSA will support CSA’s activities in China. CCOPSA’s Honorary Chairman is China National Leader Mr. Huang Mengfu, and Chairman is Fellow Sun Jiaguang. The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) signed a research partnership agreement with CSA for collaboration of cybersecurity research. IHEP of Chinese Academy of Science owns Cybersecurity Lab. The Cloud Identity Institute of Peking University’s College of Engineering signed a research partnership agreement with CSA for collaboration of identity & security research. In the China landing event, CSA also signed an industry partnership agreement with HP (China), China Advanced Technology Investment Ltd. “With our extensive global experience to help other governments, cloud providers, cloud consumers, cloud carriers, cloud brokers and cloud auditors, the CSA China Representative Office will bridge China and the world, connecting the industry and the academia, and connecting the public sector and private sector,” said Yale Li, CSA Chief Strategy Ambassador & China Chief Representative. “Through our office in China, we will provide better localized support to our partners, corporate members, local chapters, and individual members.” On the other hand, the CESI Technology Co., Ltd and the CSA come into an aligned partnership to further the security of cloud computing via standardization efforts. CESI Technology, founded in 2008, is a wholly owned subsidiary of CESI (China Electronics Standardization Institution) that was founded in 1963, is a professional institute for standardization in the field of electronics and IT industry (under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). CESI Technology carries out development, technology transfer, and consulting of computer, cloud services, communications, electronic products, and business automation. During the event, Huawei, Beisen, and Bluedon renewed their corporate membership. Other notable witnesses and agreement signers include Mr. Baoxiang Zhao, CEO of CEPREI Certification Body, Dr. Min Wang, Dean of Peking University’s College of Engineering, Dr. Taoling Xie, Director of Peking University CII, Professor Rongsheng Xu, Directory of IHEP Cybersecurity Lab, Dr Richard Zhao, CSA Greater China regional coordinating body and Dr Yushi Shen, CSA China Representative also participated in the event.
