Hot Legal Issues in the Cloud to Take Center Stage at Cloud Security Alliance Legal Information Seminar at RSA Conference 2015
Representatives from California Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, IT Law Group, and MUFG Union Bank to Emphasize "An Ounce of Preparation is Better than a Pound of Damage Control" San Francisco, CA (RSA Conference 2015) – April 8, 2015 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) today announced the speaker line up and agenda for its upcoming Legal Information Summit being held Monday, April 20 at the PLI Conference Center in San Francisco. Held annually during RSA Conference week, this year’s free event helps IT legal professionals better understand and prepare for the legal implications tied to security breaches, forthcoming European legislation, Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Data breaches continue to cost companies around the world millions of dollars, with estimates at $215 per compromised record by some reports. While huge data breaches or hacks at Anthem, Target, Sony and Home Depot have been heavily publicized, companies of almost any size face some risk. While it is estimated that the majority of business-related privacy and security breaches result in less than $1 million in damages, many estimate that the average cost for security breach now ranges anywhere from $3.5 to $7 million.
"Organizations around the world continue to fear the inevitable breach, and struggle to find answers when it comes to minimizing the potential impact of an unforeseen event that has become incredibly costly and burdensome," said Francoise Gilbert, Managing Director, IT Law Group and organizer of the event. "This year’s seminar will provide much needed in-depth guidance and know-how to help practitioners better plan and protect themselves in the event of a security breach."
This year’s event features a high caliber of speakers including:
- Joanne McNabb, Director of Privacy and Education Policy, Office of the Attorney General, California Department of Justice
- Laura Berger, Attorney, Division of Privacy and Identity Protection, Federal Trade Commission
- Maureen A. Young, Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, MUFG Americas Legal Department, MUFG Union Bank
- Daniele Catteddu, Managing Director, EMEA, Cloud Security Alliance
- Dr. PA. Subrahmanyam, Co-Chair of the Cloud Security Alliance Working Group on Big Data
- Brian Russell, Chair of the Cloud Security Alliance Working Group on Internet of Things
- Francoise Gilbert, Managing Director, IT Law Group
The seminar will cover a wide range of issues, among them include legal and regulatory perspectives on dealing with security breaches; recent developments concerning the European Union General Data Protection Regulation; the regulators positions on Big Data and the IoT, and an overview of current CSA work on European data protection measures, Big Data and the IoT.
