Dr. Onkar Nath

Cybersecurity Strategist, Freelancer

Dr. Onkar Nath is a distinguished cybersecurity leader with extensive expertise in information security, cyber risk management, cloud security, artificial intelligence and IT governance. As the former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), he spearheaded the cybersecurity strategy and security operations for one of India’s major public sector banks. In this role, he played a pivotal part in strengthening the security posture of critical financial systems and advancing secure digital banking services.

Beyond his leadership experience, Dr. Nath is widely respected for his contributions to cybersecurity education and professional development. He has served as a speaker, mentor, and workshop facilitator at industry forums, sharing expertise on cyber risk management, security governance, banking cybersecurity, and emerging technology risks. His commitment to advancing cybersecurity awareness and professional knowledge has positively impacted both practitioners and organizations.

Dr. Nath has made notable contributions to industry standards and frameworks. He has been actively involved with the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), where he has evaluated corporate sustainability initiatives as part of the TAISE reviewing campaign, mapped security controls for the CCM 4.1 – DORA working group, and served as a third reviewer for the AICM 4.1 – NIST AI RMF and NIST AI 600 mapping initiatives. He has also meticulously reviewed security controls and refined training materials for the CSA STAR AI Controls Auditor program. Additionally, he is highly engaged with ISACA's professional community, having previously guided discussions as a Topic Leader for the CGEIT and CISM programs, and currently spearheading the flagship CISA community on Engage.

His impactful work has earned him the CSA Research Fellowship Award. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (London, UK), AMSE University (France), and the United Writers’ Association of India.

He holds the CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, CDPSE, CSXP, AAIA, CloudU, CEH, CHFI, CFE, CNSM, JAIIB, CAIIB, IPIAM, CCSKv4, CCSKv5, CCZT, TAISE, STAR AI Control Auditor, CBE, AYI, ISO 27001 LA, ISO 22301 LA, ISO 42001 LA, ISO 27701 LA, M. Sc., PGDCM, PGDHRD,  PGDIM, PGDMM, PGDFM, MBA (HR), along with dual PhDs from Poorvanchal University (India) and AMSE (France).
