Cloud Security Alliance Announces Recipients of 2022 Service Awards

Awards celebrate CSA volunteers’ outstanding efforts to advance cloud security, cybersecurity worldwide

SEATTLE – Sept. 29, 2022 –The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining and raising awareness of best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment, today announced the recipients of its Juanita Koilpillai Award and the Philippe Courtot Leadership Award. The honorees were selected by the CSA executive team and chosen based on their valuable contributions towards fulfilling CSA’s mission of promoting best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment.

"Juanita left behind a legacy almost as large as her life. Her zest for living and learning infused her every action and served as an inspiration to everyone who knew her. The recipients of the first Juanita Koilpillai embody her commitment to volunteerism and advancing cloud security around the globe," said Jim Reavis, co-founder and CEO, Cloud Security Alliance. "Together, the winners of both the Juanita Koilpillai and Philippe Courtot Leadership Award are defining what it means to give back to the cloud community.”

The Juanita Koilpillai Award is awarded to CSA members whose contributions reflect Juanita's passion for volunteerism. It was first established in 2012 as the Ron Knode Service Award and re-established in 2022 as the Juanita Koilpillai Award. The CSA Industry Leadership Award was renamed in honor of Philippe Courtot, the former Chairman and CEO of Qualys and a founding member of CSA. Courtot was known for his industry vision and dedication to helping companies improve their IT security and compliance postures. His passion and understanding of emerging cyber threats redefined how companies think about security.

This year’s recipients are:

Philippe Courtot Leadership Award

Francoise Gilbert. Francoise Gilbert is a founding member of the Cloud Security Alliance and has served as its General Counsel until recently. As an attorney, she has assisted a wide variety of business entities and non-profit organizations in understanding and anticipating their legal obligations related to data security and privacy, and in addressing these obligations in the context of their business and revenue objectives. She has also volunteered as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago’s Graduate Program on Health Data Management, and the San Jose State University’s Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship, where she taught data governance. Ms. Gilbert is the primary author and editor of the two-volume legal treatise Global Privacy and Security Law (Wolters Kluwer, publisher), which explains the major drivers that have helped shape data protection laws worldwide, and provides a thorough analysis of the data protection laws of 70 countries across all continents.

Ms. Gilbert has been recognized as one of the world’s top legal experts in areas of data, privacy, and security. She has received numerous accolades in recognition of her extensive contributions in the area of privacy and data security. She is the recipient of the 2019 Vanguard Award from the California Lawyers Association. She was also recognized by the National Law Journal as a “Privacy & Cybersecurity Trailblazer” and by Best Lawyers as a “San Francisco Best Lawyer of the Year” in the area of data protection. In addition to law degrees from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law (USA) and the University of Paris School of Law (France), Francoise holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mathematics and Education from the University of Paris and the University of Montpellier (France).

I still remember my first meeting with Jim Reavis concerning the formation of the Cloud Security Alliance. It was in Silicon Valley, in the Qualys meeting room, where Philippe Courtot was the CEO. Thank you, Mr. Courtot for your help and generosity,” said Francoise Gilbert.

Juanita Koilpillai Award

Martim Barata. Martim Barata is a Partner at ICT Legal Consulting International, an international law firm specializing in information and communication technology, privacy, data protection/security, and intellectual property law. His work focuses on managing privacy and data protection compliance strategies for multinational clients, where he advises clients in the courier and mail delivery, fintech, banking, healthcare, payroll processing, compliance attestation, IT service provision, software development, cloud computing, food confection, and retail sectors, as well as EU and international institutions (primarily in the humanitarian sector) and local public institutions. He further supports local start-ups and smaller companies, particularly software and video game developers, with respect to intellectual property, IT, consumer law, and gaming law, and helps them to understand their rights and push back against unfair or misleading proposals from stronger counterparties. Together with other colleagues at ICTLC, he played an important role in drafting and revising the current CSA Code of Conduct for GDPR Compliance. He continues to assist with the Code by supporting the management of cloud service providers’ self-attestations and collaborating with CSA’s Privacy Level Agreement Working Group to further develop the Code.

Satyavathi (Satya) Divadari. With more than 24 years in IT and cybersecurity across various business sectors, including banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), telecom, business process outsourcing (BPO), media, and IT/ITSE, Satya is the go-to person for critical security projects. She currently serves as the global head of Enterprise Security Architecture and Cloud CTO at CyberRes, a Micro Focus line of business. She also serves on the boards of several non-profits, including the CSA Bangalore Chapter, where she has served as chair since 2018, and the EC-Council, where she is a Certified Threat Intelligence Analyst (CTIA) global advisory board member. She is an inventor, a thought leader, and a noted speaker in international and national forums. She has received numerous recognitions, among them the Top 10 Women Tech Leaders India, Top 20 Indian Women Security Influencer, and Women in Tech - Chief Mentor. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Cybersecurity and holds a variety of certifications, among them AWS Cloud Solution Architect Associate, CFE, CIPT, TOGAF, PMP and CISSP*. She is a working mother blessed with two sons and lives with a big supporting family. She loves reading, traveling, and making friends.

Alex Getsin. Alexander Stone Getsin is a financial technologies security leader with particular expertise and interest in cloud security, secure application design, and security governance. He is the lead author of industry security best practices, particularly with the CSA Top Threats Working Group and the (ISC)2 Israeli Chapter, which he helps champion as a co-chairman. Alex leverages a decade of experience in finance, military, technology, and cyber intelligence sectors in his current role as CISO at RiseUP. He is an alumnus of the Israeli Defense Force’s technical academic program, having served in the prestigious cyber and computing MAMRAM unit, and a certified CISSP and PMP.

Jyoti Ponnapalli. Jyoti Ponnapalli is the Senior Vice President, Head of Blockchain Innovation Strategy at Truist. She has more than 18 years of experience leading emerging technology and complex digital transformations for Fortune 500 companies across a range of industries including finance, telecom, airline, energy, and food & beverage. Prior to joining Truist, she was a Director of Blockchain at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. (DTCC), leading strategic initiatives in support of efforts to modernize the financial industry post-trade market infrastructure, such as optimizing the trade settlement cycle from T+2 to T+0, as well as tokenizing securities for private capital markets. In addition to Fintech, she has also delivered strategic solutions and roadmaps for value chains using blockchain for retail supply chains, chemical, and energy industries. Jyoti holds an Executive M.S. in Technology Management from Columbia University, NY, and a Bachelor of Science, Statistics & Operations Research degree from the University of Mumbai.

Michael Roza. Since 2012, Michael has contributed to over 85 CSA projects completed by CSA's Internet of Things, Zero Trust, Software-Defined Perimeter, Top Threats, Cloud Control Matrix, Application Containers and Microservices, DevSecOps, and other working groups. He has also served as co-chair of CSA's Enterprise Architecture, Top Threats, and Security-as-a-Service working groups while also serving as the Standards Liaison Officer for the CSA Internet of Things, Industrial Control Systems, Enterprise Architecture, Security as a Service, and Cloud Key Management working groups. He is the recipient of a 2021 CSA Fellowship Award and a three-time winner of the Ron Knode Award (2018, 2020, 2021). Michael is a risk, audit, control, and compliance professional with 20-plus years of experience with organizations such as Bridgestone EMEA, Komatsu International, Mitsui Novus International, Johnson and Johnson Inc., and Baxter Inc. He has worked with several high-tech startups serving the network management and contact center software markets and disk manufacturing and radiological cancer treatment markets. He has held leadership positions in SAP configuration and transformation teams, SAP segregation of duties, and IT general controls projects. Michael also served as secretary or observer for various committees and councils on internal audit, risk management, corporate governance, information security, and corporate social responsibility. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Public Accountant, and Certified Internal Auditor. He holds an AEMBA from Claremont College, Peter Drucker Center, and an MBA from DePaul University.
