Cloud Security Alliance to Launch Australia Chapter at AusCERT2012

CSA Continues to Strengthen Presence in Asia-Pacific with New Chapter; Inaugural Meeting Open to All at AusCERT2012

Queensland’s Gold Coast, May 14, 2012 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) will officially launch its Australia Chapter at the AusCERT2012 conference, being held May 15th-18th on Queensland’s Gold Coast, furthering the CSA’s presence and focus in Asia-Pacific. The CSA recently announced the formation of a new APAC headquarters, and appointed Aloysius Cheang as Managing Director, APAC. Christofer Hoff, one of the founders of the CSA and head of the Architecture and Framework working group, will be delivering the plenary session at the event on Wednesday, May 16th. In addition, David Ross, one of the founders of the Australia chapter, will also be speaking at the event on Wednesday afternoon. “The Cloud Security Alliance is free and open to anyone with an interest in cloud security in Australia. With the extensive use of virtualisation by Australian organisations, many of these are also looking to move to the cloud,” said David Ross. “This announcement is the culmination of the efforts of the founding directors over the past year, so that Australians can also benefit from a local CSA presence, attend meetings and gain from the knowledge available. “The CSA is great for any organisation looking to move to the cloud, with access to global CSA resources including checklists and tools to assist cloud provisioning.” The inaugural general meeting of CSA Australia Chapter will be held at the conference at the RACV Royal Pines Resort, in the Norfolk room at 12:35pm on Thursday 17th May 2012. The CSA invites all interested parties to attend the general meeting, to learn more about the chapter and its initiatives. Key Areas of Interest for the chapter include regional considerations, as particular to Australian states and territories, for:
  • Legal, Jurisdiction, and Privacy Issues
  • Identity Management
  • Standards, Compliance, and Audit
  • Security as a Service
  • Consumer and Mobile use of cloud services
“We welcome the Australia Chapter as our newest group, and look forward to their contributions in the key areas that they have determined are of great interest and importance to their constituents,” said Jim Reavis, executive director of the CSA. “We encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the chapter and CSA’s efforts overall to attend the inaugural meeting or reach out to chapter leadership to learn more about how you can get involved.” “Having been involved with the CSA for many years globally, I see the CSA approach has great value to all sizes of organisations, and individuals, looking to contribute to how best to benefit from cloud services,” said Archie Reed, a founding director of the CSA Australia Chapter. “Our mission is to build a community that works towards evolving the secure use of cloud services across the region.” About the Cloud Security Alliance The Cloud Security Alliance is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and to provide education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing.
