Cloud Security Alliance Extends AI Assurance Leadership Into Agentic AI With Addition of AIUC-1 Certification to STAR Registry
New designation allows enterprises to identify providers that have demonstrated safe, secure, and reliable AI agents
SEATTLE – June 30, 2026 – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world's leading not-for-profit organization committed to AI, cloud, and Zero Trust cybersecurity education, today announced a collaboration with AIUC-1 that addresses the growing demand for verifiable assurance of AI agents and autonomous AI systems. This collaboration marks another important milestone in CSA’s ongoing work to deliver responsible, auditable, and standards-based assurance for AI systems.
With this initiative, organizations currently listed on CSA’s Security, Trust, Assurance and Risk (STAR) Registry and that have also achieved certification against AIUC-1, the standard for AI agent security, safety and reliability, will be able to add the AIUC-1 AI Agent Trustmark to their STAR listing. Displaying the AIUC-1 Trustmark will make it easier for companies to assess the trustworthiness of a provider’s AI agents, with the certification process signalling independent validation of the AI agent via quarterly red-teaming, and assurance of an organization’s AI safety and governance practices.
“As organizations increasingly rely on AI agents to make decisions, access sensitive data, and automate critical business processes, they need a clear way to identify providers that have demonstrated a commitment to responsible AI agent development and governance, through the third-party validation of secure technical and effective operational controls," said Jim Reavis, CEO and co-founder of the Cloud Security Alliance. "By recognizing AIUC-1 certified organizations within the STAR Registry, CSA is creating a trusted resource for companies to identify partners that have independently validated their approach to secure, transparent, and trustworthy AI."
The STAR Registry is a publicly accessible registry that documents the security and privacy controls provided by popular cloud computing and AI offerings. STAR and STAR for AI encompasses the key principles of transparency, rigorous auditing, and harmonization of standards outlined in the Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM) and AI Controls Matrix (AICM). Publishing to the registry allows organizations to show current and potential customers their security and compliance posture, including the regulations, standards, and frameworks to which they adhere. The STAR Registry has previously been enhanced with the capability to accept ISO/IEC 42001 certifications for AI Management Systems and is the publicly available source of truth for trusted AI and Cloud.
"As organizations increasingly depend on AI agents to power critical business functions, trust must be built on independently validated controls” said Emil Bender Lassen, Standards Lead, AIUC. “By bringing together AIUC-1's rigorous certification standard with the industry-leading visibility and credibility of the CSA STAR Registry, we're creating a clearer and more efficient path for organizations to showcase their commitment to building responsible and secure AI. This collaboration helps reduce complexity, promotes consistency across assurance frameworks, and ultimately gives customers, regulators, and business partners greater confidence in the AI systems they rely on."
AIUC-1 is the certification standard for AI agents, designed to unlock enterprise adoption by addressing critical concerns around security, safety, reliability, data privacy, accountability, and societal impact. The standard is developed through the AIUC-1 Consortium with Technical Contributors from trusted institutions including Stanford, MIT, Orrick, MITRE, the Cloud Security Alliance, Google Cloud, Cisco, MongoDB, and more. Compliance and certification against AIUC-1 is achieved through quarterly red-teaming and annual review of operational, legal and technical controls.
