Tata Communications started out as VSNL, an Indian government-owned utility company. Investments by the Tata Group resulted in the acquisition of subsea cable systems and other international assets (such as Teleglobe and Tyco Global Network) that allowed Tata Communications to compete with, and eventually surpass, global Voice and Carrier competitors. In 2008, Tata Communications were officially rechristened ‘Tata Communications’, and with it began Tata Communications next major transformation – becoming a leading Enterprise data player, providing connectivity solutions to large global enterprises. In order to address the changing customer and competitive landscape, Tata Communications is now in the midst of yet another transition, aiming to become the preferred digital ecosystems enabler for Tata Communications customers. Tata Communications’ portfolio includes transmission of data, converged voice, managed network connectivity, data centers, communication solutions, and business transformation services for global and Indian enterprises, service providers, as well as providing broadband and content services to consumers. Tata Communications also leverages on its existing global Internet Data Centers (IDC) and global network infrastructure spread across the world for providing its services.
